On 22nd November, NERA conducted a design workshop for the staff of Singtel and reached out to Infinite to conclude their session with a terrarium making class.
Terrariums are all the rage in Singapore right now and it isn’t hard to figure out why. They are beautifully decorated mini gardens that instantly breathes life into any space. Whether it is your home or office desk, terrariums help to add a lovely touch of green and yet, are incredibly low maintenance. In addition, we found that being involved with the process of making terrariums to be quite therapeutic and stress relieving.
Research has shown that gardening has a positive effect on our mental health – it relaxes us and helps us to take our mind off a myriad of stressful thoughts such as deadlines, finances and family issues.
In this session, participants were to make a closed jar terrarium – meaning that the plants within the container are able to thrive in the environment without any problem. Yes, no need for sunlight and water! The water in the terrarium is continually recycled, making the plant self-nourishing and hence require such little maintenance. Not only are they fuss-free and really easy to make, you also get to customise your jars with cute little figurines.
More importantly, the workshop educates the class about the different types of plants, how they behave in different environments and how to care for them.
It was definitely nice to see the participants actively getting their hands dirty to make the terrariums despite their formal attire. What a great way to end the day with a little gardening activity brought to the workplace! Everyone loved their terrariums (as you can tell by all the happy faces)!
A huge thank you to the people at Singtel for participating in the workshop!
