On 13 September, Infinite surprised Syngenta’s office with the aroma of food. We’re pretty sure the fragrance had ‘distracted’ many growling stomachs that were awaiting their lunch break. And yes, that was totally our intention.
Then strike 12, 30 odd staff emerged from every direction and joined Infinite for a 2 hour Quinoa workshop. Each staff started with collecting their ‘爱心便当’ (Love Lunchbox) in orderly manner and began nom-ming away. For many of them, it was their first time having Quinoa.
What is quinoa you might ask. But first, let’s get the pronunciation right. Pronounced as “keen-wah”. Keen-wah, keen-wah, keen-wah, keen-wah.. just continue to say it fast it enough and it will become a ‘Superfood’. So, keen-wah keen-wah keen-wah keen-wah Superfood! Hope everyone got it right 🙂
Quinoa is a type of vegetable seed (in the same family as spinach) that is particularly rich in lysine, which promotes healthy tissue growth throughout the body. It is also a good source of iron, magnesium, vitamin E, potassium, and fibre. Quinoa can be used as a replacement for rice (you can agree in terms of the look and texture too) because it has more proteins, fibre and most importantly contain lower calories compared to white rice. Which means it will fill you up with less! This is certainly the biggest selling point to these office ladies.
While the staff were nom-ming away, the experts began sharing the benefits about eating quinoa. They also shared some of their personal life experiences which made them switch to eating quinoa. Now, we know diabetes is a growing problem among Singaporeans and also the hottest topic of discussion of the year. It turns out that quinoa may be an ideal choice as it has a low glycemic index, which is good for blood sugar control!
After all the sharing by the experts, we had a short quiz session where the prize was a pack of Popped Quinoa Chocolate! Looking at the face of the prize winner, you could imagine how excited she was. Well, because nobody can resist chocolate! Furthermore, you get the benefits of cacao as well as the quinoa. Isn’t that an ultimate treat for all ladies (maybe gentlemen too)?!?!
Towards the end of the workshop, the staff also got a hands-on experience at cooking quinoa. It’s so simple as it is just like cooking rice. 15 minutes later, the office was once again filled with the aroma of cooked quinoa. While everyone was busy trying out the freshly cooked quinoa, we ended our workshop session on a tasty note.
Overall, it was such a fun session with the lovable and enthusiastic staff from Syngenta and a big thank you for having us!
